"Ten years of marriage and a reality show later, Ice-T and Coco are still going strong—proving to the world that celebrity couples can last and that true love knows no colors…

He’s a light-skinned, 53-year-old former pimp turned gangsta-rap pioneer who sang about killing cops before playing one on the television series Law & Order: Special Victims Unit.

She’s a White, 32-year-old Valley girl turned swimsuit model with 39DD-26-401⁄2 dimensions, a penchant for TwitPic’ing seminude photos of herself and a talent for balancing soda cans on her backside.

Together, they are Ice-T and Coco, happily married couple. And while some might see them as a sort of novelty, their union has survived the usual celebrity-couple jinx, putting their PDA on Front Street for a decade strong now.

What’s their secret?

“Partnership,” says Ice, who was born Tracy Marrow in Newark, New Jersey, and raised in Los Angeles. “Being around Coco is like being at the spa: stress free. Her agenda is to make my day better, which makes me want to make her day better in return. That’s how we make life better for each other.”

Coco (née Nicole Austin) agrees and stresses the importance of communication: “You have to open up and bring up whatever’s in your head.”

To further display how they’ve made it work, the couple premiered their E! reality show, Ice Loves Coco, in June—shortly after renewing their vows at the W Hotel in Hollywood. The show chronicles their day-to-day, as Ice continues his rap and acting career and Coco launches her clothing line, Licious. They recently spoke to XXL about their life together and being role models for happy hip-hop marriage.—Mariel Concepcion

XXL: Take us back to the beginning. How did you two meet?

Coco: We met about 10 years ago, in California, at a video shoot. I was leaving the bathroom, and his friend said, “You have to go meet someone right now.” In comes Ice, in a red snake suit and hat. He was introduced to me, I introduced myself, and sparks flew on his end. He had a grump day—he has those often. I didn’t know we were supposed to click. Afterwards, he regrouped and asked if I would consider dating a gangster rapper. I said, “Of course.” [He responded,] “Baby, take the N off nice and you get Ice.” I was smitten right there.

Ice-T: I was in a bad mood, and I was doing [the shoot] as a favor for a friend. Coco was a model on the set, and my friend figured, This will cheer Ice up. I turned around, and I was like, Damn! And when she walked away, I thought, Homegirl got booty, too!

You got married two months after meeting. How did you each know the other was the one you wanted to spend the rest of your life with?

Coco: He made me laugh like no other. He’s always making me laugh—crying
on the floor. I also liked the fact that he’s hardcore but on the inside he’s not.
Maybe to everyone else he is, but to me he doesn’t play that. He’s sensitive to my needs. He loves to cuddle and little things like that.

Ice-T: For me it was a no-brainer. Not only was Coco beautiful and a sweetheart, she gave me no stress. She’s not a nagger. She’s not a bitch. She doesn’t talk bad about people. She’s a hustler. It just seemed like what I wanted. You can’t be a couple and be independent. “I gotta be independent”—that’s what breaks couples up. We are a couple.

What was your wedding like?

Ice-T: We eloped. We didn’t have much time to do it. We were already both wearing rings; she was already my wife to the public. It was New Year’s Eve, we flew to
Vegas, got the license, called downstairs, went to the chapel and knocked it out.
An hour later, we took off our outfits and had an NYE party.

Coco: Best moment of my entire life, when you’re saying vows and looking into each other’s eyes. Ice started crying a bit, which made me cry.

You are a high-profile interracial couple. Have you ever gotten any backlash for this?

Coco: When I first got with him, the Black women didn’t really find it amusing. I found it more in Harlem. When I first came into the picture, they were like, “Who is this blonde bimbo?” I just love the man. I’m not trying to step on anyone’s toes. I wanted to show the world I was dedicated to this man. After seeing me so many years, now I get so much respect.

You definitely get a lot of love from the public these days. What do you think it is that people find so appealing?

Ice-T: They never seen me disrespect her. Never see a picture of me without her. They see how I speak about her, how she speaks about me. If we’re always out of pocket, people be like, “Fuck them. That’s corny.” But we respect each other, and we love each other, and we don’t have a problem saying that."

"You commented on Gulf War 1 and the decay of American society on the O.G. album. Two decades later, is the world a better place?

Ice T: I do believe that in my lifetime, this is the most fucked-up time yet.

Even worse than 20 years ago, with the LA riots and 'Cop Killer'?

IT: You're right. Of course, in the 80s and the early 90s there was all the police bullshit, but now we're in a global scenario. My neighbourhood was fucked-up back then, and it continues to be, but South Central wasn't worried about somebody blowing up the goddamn world, neither. So, overall it's a lot more fucked-up. Nobody trusts anybody, everybody is looking at everybody crazy. Even in England you guys are having situations, and it's not something that seems like it's ever gonna go away."

Ice-T book signing & gig at Red Parrot on July 30th!

The Iceberg will perform and sign copies of his new autobiography at 9 p.m. July 30 in the parking lot of the Red Parrot.

Ice will be promoting both TV shows (SVU / Ice Love Coco) and his new autobiography, "Ice: A Memoir of Gangster Life and Redemption — From South Central to Hollywood," which was published in April.

He'll sign copies of the book at the Red Parrot event.

Club owner Darius Belcher said he'll also perform at the event stating the set would be between an hour and 90 minutes. He was unable to confirm whether Ice's wife Coco would attend.

Tickets are $30, $25 for military, on sale at the club and Mo'z BBQ.

It's an 18-and-older show.

The documentary DMC: Walk This Way, which explores the life of Darry “DMC” McDaniels of the legendary pioneering hip-hop group Run-DMC, will debut this Sunday, July 10 on US Channel Ovation TV!

Directed by Justin Bua, the film will not only examine the group’s successes, but the emcee’s personal setbacks, including a battle with alcoholism and the gradual loss of his voice to spasmodic dysphona. DMC’s story has previously been told in his autobiography, King of Rock: Respect, Responsibility, and My Life with Run-DMC. The documentary will feature interviews with Eminem, MC Lyte, Ice-T, Melle Mel, Grandmaster Caz and more.

Why can't Ice-T replace Chris Meloni on 'Law & Order: SVU'?

"Perhaps it’s my affection for his now-documented relationship with his wife. Perhaps it’s my love for the way his character is the rare comic relief on Law & Order: SVU. Perhaps it’s the fact that he’s confident enough to sport a ponytail that looks all too similar to a rat tail. But I can’t help but wonder why, when Chris Meloni leaves Law & Order: SVU, Ice-T’s Det. Fin can’t replace Det. Stabler.

As a huge fan of Meloni’s departing Det. Stabler, I’ll admit whoever replaces him has big shoes to fill. He (or, heck, she) needs to have a commanding presence on the small screen, prove he could master the procedural, and be an interesting enough character to encourage viewers to tune into SVU every week. But Ice-T — who has signed on for two more seasons on the series — has all those traits: He’s stolen scenes from his Emmy-nominated co-stars plenty of times, is actually believable as a New York detective (most don’t look fantastic and photo shoot-ready while chasing a criminal, Mariska Hargitay), and would introduce a fascinating dynamic on the show as Det. Benson’s partner. While Stabler was the aggressive ying to Benson’s emotion-laden yang, Fin and Benson would hardly work together in harmony: Many times in the past, we’ve seen Fin criticize Benson for her, ahem, slightly more prudish ways. (Remember when he criticized her for poo-pooing a pastime he enjoys, online porn?) We’ve watched SVU tackle brutal murder after brutal murder after brutal murder — some new tension in the workplace could be what the show needs to keep things fresh."

State lawyers admitted there had been a clerical error when the rapper was arrested last month. "That's what I'm talking about! Dismissed!" the Iceberg shouted into the court.

As for the dumb ass haters Ice dropped some knowledge over Twitter "Street credibility has nothing to do with going to jail, it has everything to do with staying out."

"As for why he's a great speaker for the event, Ice pointed out that the youth is usually reluctant when listening to people like police officers or other authority figures. - "He was an orphan early on and he knows the issues our foster youth face," explained conference organizer Nancy Bonilla. "Because of his celebrity status, he brings recognition to the issues, and a big part of the conference is to bring awareness to the issues."

Brand Nubian formed in 1989 after Grand Puba's original group, Masters of Ceremony, split up. Its first single, "Brand Nubian," was released in 1989. Their debut "One for All" is one of the more popular and acclaimed alternative hip hop albums of the 1990s, known for socially conscious and politically charged content. Most recently they dropped 'Times Runnin Out' a collection of mainly unreleased tracks recorded in the late 1990's.

Back in mid March the Iceberg tweeted he was about to start production on his film 'The Art of Rap'. Other tweets gave us a look at the interview list that includes KRS1 and Grandmaster Caz, and a number of maybes which include RasCazz, Imortal Technique and Ghostface from the Wu; "@GhostfaceKillah I'm trying to reach Ghost... DM me. Ice T"

March the 26th, the Iceberg interviewed Reakwon and on the 28th he interviewed/filmed with Chuck D, Naughty By Nature, Kool Kieth and Grandmaster Caz...

He may have also hit up Busta based on this recent photo;

"If anybody was born to rap, it's Ice-T. In television and in film, the way the almost 30-year Rap veteran delivers his lines, it's still rooted in cadence and conviction. Exclaim! Canada's self proclaimed Music Authority dropped some news late last month that KRS ONE will be teaming with DJ Premier to bring the people a follow on to 1993's 'Return of the Boom Bap'! Back in 93' this was the first solo album from KRS and based on the recent success of Sequal records like Reakwons "Only Built for Cuban Links Pt II" this could be biiiiiig!!!

Ice-T stated on his Twitter earlier this week that he was flying over to the UK for the weekend. Turns out he was coming over for the Cash Money Records party. The American-based record label held the celebrity-studded bash to celebrate its first British signing, Jay Sean, getting to number one with his single 'Down' featuring rapper Lil' Wayne and the launch of his new album 'All or Nothing'.

The Daily Mail published photos from the night, including the one below with this underneath "Veteran: Rapper Ice-T attended the celebration with a mystery blond companion".... Mmmm that "blond companion" will be his wife!!! Research people, research!!!

On October 14, the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA) honored writers and producers who have given a voice to people with mental health problems by incorporating dignified, respectful, and accurate portrayals of these individuals into film and television productions. Hosted by Oscar® award-winner Richard Dreyfuss, this year’s Voice Awards event nominated award-winning production that included The Soloist, Michael Clayton, Lars and the Real Girl, "90210," "Grey’s Anatomy," and our man Icebergs Law & Order: SVU”.

We noticed this video a couple of weeks back on the FunkyJahPunkys' official youtube channel. However it's only in the last week that stories have begun to appear on websites like ANTIMUSIC and the LA WEEKLY, why are these reports important? Well any love for the Iceberg is always well received however ANTIMUSIC in it's report on the 9th of October states:

"Ice-T enjoyed working with The FunkyJahPunkys. "It is very refreshing to work with a true, hard core, underground group. There are not many left." Ice-T just wrapped up the summer touring with the 15th anniversary Warp Tour, and is releasing new material with his band Body Count later this year."

No your eyes are not deceiving you, the last line does read - "releasing new material with his band Body Count later this year"

Ice-T 'Hood Manual' in production (it's Official)

Last week we reported the Twitter post of DJ King Assassin and the subsequent update regarding his interview with Ice-T. Well we are happy to confirm that yesterday we sat down and listened to the interview in full, and The Hood Manual is Official!

In part two of the interview Ice-T states; "I'm doing a record called The Hood Manual, which really is a bunch of records I did, featuring on other peoples records. I got records with M.O.P, I got records with Kool Moe Dee, I got records with all kinds of artists."

At this point DJ King Assassin mentions a track he has featuring both Ice-T and 2Pac. Finger crossed he gets this over to Ice and we see it on the album! Ice has never, (unlike many others) talked a lot about his affiliation with 2PAC, but a simple YouTube search brings up numerous videos, from TV appearances and tracks that feature both artists.

The interview itself is the best we have heard in regards to Ice-T and his music, hell in regards to Ice-T and his world, for a long time! Give it a listen and please surf over to DJ King Assassins PodoMatic page and give him some love!

Ice-T New Album? Part 2...

A week or so ago, we here at the Ice Blog were getting excited due to a Twitter post from DJ King Assassin stating; "I'm mixing down the new ICE T release!"

Was this the new release we've been waiting for? Was it 'Hood Manual'? Well, we can now confirm... NO.

A post via Ice-T's own Twitter states in answer to a fans excited question;

"RT @HyJaxLTD: Tell me its 'The Hood Manual' complete or aa whole nitha title? > No. It's actually a remix of the 'Act Of War' Anti- Mixtape"

We did a little further digging and found a recent interview with DJ King Assassin and the Iceberg on the worldwide syndicated MixShowBlast available via PodoMatic.

The interview is split, PART ONE - PART TWO. Surf over and give DJ King Assassin's PodoMatic page some love, and keep dreaming, dreaming of the 'Hood Manaul'!

Yesterday via Twitter DJ King Assassin dropped this bombshell; "I'm mixing down the new ICE T release!"

Could this be the long awaited 'Hood Manaul'? First mentioned way back in 2007 via Rap Basement when they posted a video of Ice-T in the studio claiming him to be working on a new album!

Then in September 2008 came this picture posted on Ice-T's official MySpace;

Underneath were (and still are) the words "Hood Manual - Coming Soon". Then Ice-T posted the title track in August this year via Sound Space! Hopefully with Ice's new label via EMI, we may see the album drop soon, question is was it Hood Manual that DJ King Assassin was mixing down?

Ice-T helps Raekwon celerbrate

News via Ben Johnson at silive.com that Iceberg was at Tuesday nights sold out performance at Santos Party House in Manhattan to celebrate Raekwon's new album 'Strictly Built 4 Cuban Linx II'. Several member of the Wu-Tang were also present and the night was hosted by non other than P. Diddy.

Ice-T rocks 15th Anniversary Warped Tour with Body Count

Reports have been filtering through from last nights 15th Anniversary Warped tour celebration that among Kety Perry, NOFX and the All American Rejects was Ice-T with his metal outfit Body Count! Orange County Local Music Examiner Paul Hebert wrote;

"As the Aggrolites ended their set, the revolving-stage began to slowly turn as the emcee announced the arrival of none-other than the notorious hard-rocking group Body Count, fronted by rap veteran Ice-T. The show had Ice-T listed as a performer for the evening, but the fact that he arrived and performed with Body Count had the entire venue ecstatic. The main floor erupted into a ferocious mosh-pit as the band played through many tracks off their 1992 self-titled release including "Bowels of the Devil," "KKK Bitch" and "There goes the Neighborhood." As the police-light bars began to spin and guitarist Ernie-C ripped out the opening notes of the controversial "Cop Killer" the pit expanded consuming a good amount of the orchestra area."

Ice-T posts title track for 'Hood Manual'

Ice-T yesterday posted the title track from his much anticipated 'Hood Manual' via Sound Cloud yesterday. It's dark, very dark, features members of SMG and quality production is in full effect.

Originally mentioned on Rap Basement way back in 2007, when they posted a video of Ice-T in the studio recording for the album, very little seems to have filtered through. There was the possible album cover posted via Ice-T's official myspace but very little else.

This track is the first positive sign the album may really be on its way!
