HIP HOP DX indepth interview with the Iceberg!

"If anybody was born to rap, it's Ice-T. In television and in film, the way the almost 30-year Rap veteran delivers his lines, it's still rooted in cadence and conviction. The same is true when you interview him. More than most, Ice-T is a listener. He tells a mean story, but he always touches on to each facet of a question, even if it's 10 minutes later.

The same appears true of Ice-T's career. As seen in Law & Order: SVU and his relationship with Coco, the O.G. is continuously evolving, but if conversation allows, he shows that he's remembered every mile in the road that brought him here. The same man who made the cassette tapes that I had to hide from my mother, now entertains her through a multi-network syndicated television show. The Home Invasion prophecy has been fulfilled, as T has achieved true and lasting Power.

It might not be rhyme that pays these days, but Ice-T tells HipHopDX about new music with Immortal Technique and Canibus. He asserts that he's a Mobb Deep fanatic, and although Dr. Dre and Ice may frequently break bread together at the dinner-table, T explains why friendship is always thicker than collaboration. Although many love him for so many reasons, we forever champion this man for his risk-taking rhymes and topical, vividly-optical style. Ice-T, one of our heroes."

Ice-T in new film 'For Love and Liberty'

NEW YORK, Dec. 21 /PRNewswire/ -- "For Love of Liberty: The Story of America's Black Patriots" (www.forloveofliberty.com) - the untold saga of African Americans' courageous service to their country - will premiere on public television in February 2010, coinciding with Black History Month. (Check local listings.) Hosted by Halle Berry, narrated by Avery Brooks, and featuring an introduction by Colin Powell and choral arrangements by Andrae Crouch, the powerful four-hour, two-part HD film will also be released on DVD on February 9, 2010.

Ten years in the making, "For Love of Liberty" brings to life, completely and for the first time, over two hundred years of heroic exploits of African American fighting men and women. Filmmaker George Lucas calls the film "...a truly important work," while Ken Burns says, "I believe this is a story - both entertaining and educational - that is relevant to all Americans."

Through the innovative combination of personal writings and memorabilia, historical text, rare photographs, archival materials, location footage and reenactments, the film documents African Americans' sacrifice and service, from the Revolutionary War to the current battle against global terrorism. Their compelling stories are recounted through dramatic, off-camera readings by more than 40 talented entertainers and public figures, including: Morgan Freeman, Mel Gibson, Susan Sarandon, Louis Gossett, Jr., Ossie Davis, Robert Duvall, Danny Glover, Jeffrey Wright, Sam Elliott, Isaac Hayes, John Goodman, Jesse L. Martin, Peter Coyote, Ice-T, James Garner, Robert Townsend, Alan Rickman, Ruby Dee, John Amos, Eriq La Salle, Angela Bassett, Chris Cooper, Alfre Woodard, Cliff Robertson, Blair Underwood, Charles Dutton, Kris Kristofferson, Donald Sutherland, Isaiah Washington and many others.

"'For Love of Liberty' will forever change perceptions about the vital role African Americans have played during the entire course of U.S. military history," said Louis Gossett, Jr., also an executive producer.

"Our goal is to raise public consciousness about this extraordinary and little-known story," said Frank Martin, director, co-writer and co-producer. "The triumphant theme that echoes across the centuries - the price of liberty - is universal, timeless and meaningful for all people."
